Artists who feel comfortable performing already have one hurdle to a career out of the way. And Alyssa Taylor, an up and coming actress and music artist, loves to perform. We recently interviewed Alyssa who wants to pursue what she loves to do: acting and singing. She is originally from Colorado, but now lives in Chicago, Illinois.
She remembers enjoying singing since she was 3. It’s clear, when you listen to her, she has a singing ability and a sense of her own style. Her first performance was in 3rd grade and she has continued to find the opportunity to perform in front of an audience. She currently attends college where she studies acting.
In fact, she has a Youtube channel and an Instagram where she presents musical performances, comedy, make-up tips, and style ideas. She’s definitely not shy! And the variety shows the range she is capable of.
In the music industry, it is important to have a unique voice or style as well as individual self expression. Industry experts suggest that you look at what style you are drawn to which brings out your strengths. Then figure out how to develop a unified style in how you walk, dress, talk, and perform.
Bringing that together helps to brand you so that your self expression and performing are all one package that works together. For example, an elegant clothing style doesn’t fit with a theatrical style of speaking. Putting like things together, such as a consistent theatrical look and performance style, makes sense to audiences. And most audiences are attracted to the entire look and feel of an artist rather than just one part of them.
Luckily, Alyssa Taylor has a strong sense of how to dress and a sense of stage presence that works together to show daring and confidence. She is working now to develop more of her own music and acting opportunities. Getting feedback can really help her fine tune her sound.
She has such a love for music that she can’t narrow down her list of favorite artists to just 2 or 3. Her favorite music artists are Beyonce, Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Adele, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Christina Aguilera, Sam Smith, as well as rap artists Kanye, Kendrick Lamar, 21 Savage, Cardi B, Nicki Minaj, Drake. She says picking a favorite artist is a “hard question for me to answer since I love so much music!”
As for acting, she has appeared on a few episodes of the Showtime comedy Shameless! She enjoys the acting side of performing and likes to put together her own videos.
