Alexandra Kay is excited about her music right now and you can really feel her heart and energy in the country music she creates. The singer from Millstadt, Illinois, likes the more traditional sound of country rather than the pop blend that has become so popular now. She shared with us a bit about her and her music career right now.

Alexandra insists that she is “determined to bring country music back to its roots.” In fact, her favorite country music singers include 90’s favorites Garth Brooks, George Strait, Allen Jackson, Brooks and Dunn and Jo Dee Messina. Recently she has been inspired by the music stylings of the band Midland and Ashley McBryde. Like many country music fans, creative songwriting along with a heavily 90’s country sound has a comforting appeal to her.

Interestingly, country music often has creative and original lyrics but there are several kinds of music that are called country. Country includes folk, guitar ballads, bluegrass, western cowboy and pop blends. Alexandra enjoys the popular mainstream country that keeps true to the heart of country music.

It wasn’t until high school that Alexandra started to think about a music career. She began writing poetry to express her emotions about the same time she was in choir and learning about musicians. One day she thought of a great melody to put with a poem she was composing and realized her talent as a songwriter.

She had the amazing opportunity to appear on season 13 of NBC’s The Voice this year. She is grateful for the opportunity to share her talent. The Voice can be a tough environment to put yourself through because the judges look for strong vocal talent. Alexandra, who is self-confident, also went on tour to open for several country icons.

Touring helps you to develop confidence and stage presence. Alexandra has gotten to know other artists to learn the tricks of the trade. She now lives in Los Angeles where she is working on a documentary about up and coming music artists. The connections she is forming help her to define herself creatively.

Since she loves to share her music with listeners, she really enjoys using HearMeOut. The short clips make it easy to share a bit of what she’s working on. She shares, “I love playing with the voice filters especially when I’m recording an acapella cover.” She can keep her fans up to date on what she is doing.
